Zeynep Tufekci: Our attention has been stolen

Zeynep Tufekci

If you're not paying for the technology, you are the product. Your eyeballs, your attention, your data and your wallet.

Zenep Tufekci

It’s bad enough when companies you trust sell your data for profit, but there is something worse on the horizon. Addictive technology is on the march – from poker machines to smartphones. And it is stealing something even more valuable – our attention – in order to sell it to the highest bidder. Is it too late to get it back?

Speaking at the Festival of Dangerous Ideas, author and  technology sociologist Zeynep Tufekci shares how big tech is exploiting your data. Chaired by Ann Mossop, festival co-curator and UNSW Centre for Ideas Director.

This talk is part of the UNSW Grand Challenge on Living with 21st Century Technology, and was recorded live on stage as part of the Festival of Dangerous Ideas 2018
